Who We Are

Sports for Special Athletes (SSA) volunteers and athletes are people just like you.  We are your friends, neighbours and co-workers.

All members – athletes, volunteers and coaches are voting members.  Family members are encouraged to register as members so they may also influence the direction of the organization.

History

Sports for Special Athletes was formed by coaches, volunteers and parents who acknowledged that many special needs individuals can learn the skills necessary to participate in existing community activities and competitions.

Funding

Funds are solicited from events, corporate sponsorships, memberships and personal donations.  All money raised in the community goes directly into programs.  There is no provincial or national body taking a percentage of the funds raised.

Registration

Fall sports - registration is in September.
Spring and summer sports - registration is in April/May

Annual General Meeting (AGM)

Interested Members

Cost: Annual membership is currently very low. This covers liability insurance, facility costs and administrative costs in-curred by volunteers. Sport costs vary from sport to sport but are generally substantially less than regular community sport fees. Family memberships are also available as are corporate and sponsor member-ships.

Facilities: Our participants use safe, clean public facilities such as the Family Fitness Su-per Club and RIM Park. They become members of sports groups (i.e. Ontario Powerlifting Association, Heritage Lawn Bowling Club, K-W Ser-toma Speed Skating Club).
